THE PRESIDENT OF THE REBUBLIC OF MALWI DR LAZAROUS CHAKWERA LAUNCHED $350 MILLION DEVELOPMENT COMPACT IN MALAWI

$350 million compact for Malawi

In an effort to make the country roads and transportations better, the President of Malawi Dr Lazarus Mccaphy Chakwera launched the Malawi transport and land compact at Mzonde ground in Lilongwe on Thursday, May 30 2024. The $350 million project aims to address critical infrastructure challenges and promote sustainable land management.

Analysing how the construction of the road will benefit local malawians

The launch ceremony was graced by the presents of various government officials, tradition leaders and development partners. Speaking at the event the president Chakwera emphasized the importance of the project in enhancing mobility, boosting economic activities for example trade and etc. and also creating a conducive environment for business and investments. In addition to the launch, Dr Lazarous Chakwera also held a big meeting called a Development rally at Ndaula primary school ground  where they  welcomed Mr Sekeran halifax Kamsikiri the councillor  who transitioned from their role at DPP to MCP.Mr Kamsikiri joined the Malawi Congress party after 4 years in Democratic progressive party.Mr Kamsiliri said that he is excited to work with the MCP in developing Malawi.

“The Malawi transport and Land Compact is transformative initiative that will address the problems that hinders our economic growth and social development”, said the President. “By investing in modern infrastructures, efficient land management systems and sustainable transportation solutions we will create a platform for inclusive growth and poverty reduction”. The project will undertake various activities include upgrading roads to desired standards, constructing new bridges, modernizing inland water transport systems and implementing sustainable land management practices to address soil erosion and deforestation. These measures are expected to change the lives of Malawi in many ways. Firstly, improved infrastructure will facilitate easier movement of people and goods, boosting trade and economic activities, modernized land management will enhance agricultural productivity and lastly reduce conflict over land ownership.


Traditional leaders present at the ceremony expressed their interest and support to the project and highlighted and highlighted its potential to encourage and sensitize their people to work together to improve their lives through this project.
